With the participation of more than 1,500 researchers and students in the postgraduate studies, the activities of the Damascus University workshop for scientific research for the year 2021 were launched today, under the title “Towards Participatory Applied Research” accompanied by an exhibition of completed scientific research.

Over the course of five days, the participants will address topics that include medical, basic, engineering, economic, administrative, legal, human and societal sciences, with the aim of linking the outputs of scientific research with the requirements of society.

During the sessions of the first day, in the axis of medical and basic sciences, the participants reviewed a number of issues and topics related to the quality of medical education, nanomedicine, epidemiological study of common diseases, preparation of oncology databases, accreditation of evidence-based medicine and stem cell therapy, in addition to pharmaceutical industries and drug quality, as well as genetic and genetic research and its applications, analysis Food control and review of clinical studies to evaluate modern techniques used in dentistry and how to treat polluted water and waste recycling.

Dr. Muhammad Yasar Abdeen, President of Damascus University, stressed in his speech during the opening that the seriousness of scientific research has become an urgent requirement in light of the increasing needs for development. Therefore, Damascus University works with all its capabilities to empower graduate students and researchers in it and provide them with full support and give special importance to participatory and complementary research with other specialized sectors in society in order to stimulate innovation and creativity in scientific research.

In statements to SANA, Dr. Firas Hennawi, head of the scientific committee organizing the workshop, considered that universities have a key role in guiding scientific research, and that they possess the necessary ingredients for the research process, including distinguished professors, hard-working students, and experienced workers.

Dr. Majd Al-Jamali, Director General of the Supreme Commission for Scientific Research, pointed out that the partnership between Damascus University and the ministries and public authorities contributes to accessing applied scientific research that can be used and invested quickly in the productive sectors.

Dr. Marwan Al-Halabi, coordinator of the medical axis in the workshop, confirmed that the research gaps, problems and the matrix of challenges facing workers in the medical sector will be presented and framed within research projects in a way that contributes to finding the necessary solutions to them.

Dr. Hatoon Al-Tawashi, Director of School Health at the Ministry of Education, referred to the study of research projects submitted to the Ministry by students in order to implement them on the target groups of students and school students in a way that ensures the smooth running of the educational process.

Dr. Rasha Mohamed, director of the Health Strategic Studies Center at the ministry, pointed out that the center is concerned with developing health and research studies and consultations related to health and medical issues, which contribute to improving the reality of health services and solving problems related to this sector.
