The Lenggrieser Tafel has resumed operations after a forced break for months - in new rooms.

More helpers are welcome - as well as other people who need support.

Lenggries - For months, the corona pandemic had made the food distribution of the Lenggrieser Tafel impossible. Many of the helpers, but also the customers, belong to the risk group. In view of the increasing incidence in the district last autumn, the Tafel therefore interrupted the Saturday edition. Instead, the association “Just a bit of time” around Birgitta Opitz, with the support of many sponsors, distributed vouchers for local businesses to those in need.

Last Saturday, however, operations at the table started again - in new rooms. “Our new home is beautiful,” says Opitz and laughs. The board is housed in the former Freibank building on Münchner Strasse - right next to the fire brigade. The waterworks was previously housed there and has now moved into the former warehouse at the train station. There finally distributed the board. So the two institutions practically swapped places. "Many of our helpers helped with the move," says Opitz. The municipality and the building yard ensured that the table now has a beautiful and, above all, practical domicile. "We have two rooms with a social corner for the helpers, a gallery with storage space and an easy-to-clean floor," says Opitz happily. "We have never had it so nice and hopethat this is our final accommodation option. ”A kind of social building has been built on Münchner Strasse. The blackboard is on the ground floor and the emergency shelter on the upper floor.

Distribution runs according to the old system again

During the distribution, the board returned to the old system.

If in the meantime there were already packed bags that customers could take with them, those collecting the groceries can now put the groceries together again themselves.

“The problem with the bags was that some had things in them that they couldn't or didn't want to eat,” says Opitz.

There was always the danger that some things would be thrown away.

Since food banks primarily want to save food, they have returned to the old system.

Of course, care is taken to ensure that only one or two customers are in the building at a time so that the necessary distances are maintained.

Of course, there is also a hygiene concept that is being implemented.

Despite the long break, “except for one or two helpers who stopped due to age, they are all back on board,” says Opitz.

However, other - especially younger - helpers are always welcome.

You only have to bring a little time with you: half a Saturday every five weeks.

“It's really a very fulfilling job,” says Opitz.

Number of customers was still low

Some customers obviously have to get used to the fact that the food will now be distributed again.

At the first appointment after the compulsory break, there were only 15 people collecting the goods.

“That is not enough.

But that will probably have to work out again first, ”says Opitz.

The helpers have now hung up pieces of paper and are betting that word of mouth will ensure that everyone in need can find their way to the blackboard again.

"I would like people to find the courage to come to us again," says Opitz.

It is distributed every Saturday from 3 p.m.

All social card holders are authorized to collect.
