Less than two months before the Tokyo Olympics, the Hong Kong Association and Olympic Committee Vice President Huo Qigang said today (13th) that he is in close communication with the International Olympic Committee and the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee, and preparations are in full swing. Participation guidelines will be issued to the local Olympic committees in the middle or end of the month.

Xu Shuchang, an expert advisor to the Hong Kong government, and experts from other countries wrote articles stating that all athletes participating in the Tokyo Olympics should be vaccinated compulsorily, otherwise the Olympics should not be held.

Huo Qigang pointed out that according to his knowledge, the current athletes' vaccination rate is good. He also pointed out that although vaccination is not a prerequisite for going to Tokyo to participate in the Olympics, he called on all athletes to be vaccinated to bring themselves an extra layer of protection.

Will discuss with the government the quarantine arrangements for athletes to return to Hong Kong

Huo Qigang pointed out that according to the current information, athletes participating in the Olympics need to be quarantined for 3 days after arriving in Tokyo. In the first 14 days after arrival, athletes need to use an app to record their itinerary, including training, accommodation, etc.

As for the quarantine arrangements after returning to Hong Kong, he said that he would communicate with the government again.

He mentioned that since many athletes will participate in the National Games in September after the end of the Olympics on August 8, the time is relatively tight, and he emphasized that he will communicate with the sports teams again.

When asked if he would go to Japan with the delegation, Huo Qigang said that he still does not know the final number of delegations to Japan, and he is not the head of the current delegation, and he is not sure whether he can join the delegation.

He also denied the rumor that his wife Guo Jingjing was pregnant again, saying that his wife might have set off with the International Travel Federation to participate in work in Tokyo.

Most of the Hong Kong team's delegation is tentatively scheduled to leave two weeks before the opening of the Olympic Games. A flag-giving ceremony will be held at the Government House before departure. It is expected that athletes such as Li Huishi and He Shibei are expected to compete for medals.

The head of the Hong Kong delegation, Bei Junqi, said earlier that although the International Olympic Committee requested the reduction of the manpower behind the scenes, it emphasized that it would try its best to meet the medical needs of the Hong Kong general.
