The decline in the abundance of drinking water springs in the governorate of Daraa prompted the Public Corporation for Drinking Water to rely on spatial pumping stations or pumping stations close to the population centers that do not have wells to irrigate the population centers far from the pumping projects.

In a statement to SANA reporter, Muhammad al-Masalmeh, the director of the foundation, Muhammad al-Masalma, explained that the foundation has built tens of spatial pumping stations over the past years, which have proven their effectiveness and efficiency in irrigating population centers far from pumping projects, which require pumping water from very long distances to these gatherings, pointing out that the conditions of the terrorist war caused A large part of it went out of service due to the large encroachments that affected the buildings and equipment.

Al-Masalma added that with the return of stability to the governorate in late 2018, the Corporation began to gradually restore these stations to service, as the number of stations that are currently operating effectively reached 14 stations equipped with full mechanical and electrical equipment, noting that the total number of wells used in the current stations is 68 and the number The population benefiting from these stations is about 510 thousand people, which is equivalent to about two-thirds of the population of the governorate.

The director of the Corporation pointed out that the stations are distributed over the eastern and northern countryside of the governorate, in addition to the city of Daraa, while the Corporation has started building a new station in the town of Al-Hara in the northern countryside and contracting to build a station in the city of Nawa in the western countryside.

And he indicated that the Corporation found in the spatial pumping stations the best way to meet the population's water needs, pointing out that there are future plans to return the rest of the stations to service as soon as the capabilities become available for that.
