(ANSA) - MILAN, 11 JUN - Sustainability, or more precisely the ESG, environment, social and governance factors, are not only in the financial statements, now Italian companies take this into account in their industrial plans and the board of directors use them to define their remuneration of their managers. Consob, for the third consecutive year in its Report on the non-financial reporting of Italian listed companies, evaluates the environment, social factors and governance (the so-called ESGs enter the corporate decision-making process, the definition of business models, corporate strategies and corporate governance models, and records a virtuous path that has been triggered.

In 2020, 151 companies listed on the MTA that published a non-financial declaration, including 3 companies that did so voluntarily. However, they are still unable to involve external stakeholders, even if Consob is growing only 83 cases (compared to 44 in 2018) while the Board of Directors was directly involved in the materiality analysis in 39 cases (a marked increase compared to to 21 in 2019).

The step forward is to include sustainability in the strategies: out of 59 listed companies that have published extracts of the Strategic Plans on their websites, 28 have mentioned some elements of long-term value in their strategy, 15 have mentioned the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN, 7 fully integrated financial and non-financial considerations, while one pointed to materiality as a fundamental element of strategic planning.
