The 13th state visit by a US President went well.
On Sunday, Joe Biden and his wife Jill met the Queen at Windsor Castle.
The 95-year-old monarch welcomed the Bidens in the college courtyard of the palace.
It was the first state reception without her husband, the recently deceased Prince Philip.
Afterwards, at the airport, the US President raved about the 15-year-old Queen.
Joe Biden, US President:
“She was very generous. I don't think she would be offended - but she reminded me of my mother, in terms of her looks and her generosity. I said, 'You know, ma'am, it's about time.' She said, 'Oh, no.' And I: 'I wish we could stay longer. Maybe we could hold up the cars for a minute. 'She was very kind. "
The US President had previously traveled to Great Britain for the G7 summit in Cornwall.
The reception of Queen Elizabeth was the end of his visit to England and at the same time the more glamorous part: the honor guard stood guard and the American national anthem played.
The British should still remember Biden's predecessor as a guest.
Donald Trump's first state visit three years ago was not only accompanied by protests in London, it was also full of missteps by the US President.
First he made the then 92-year-old Queen wait in the summer heat.
Then neither Trump nor his wife Melania submitted to the royal protocol: no curtsey, no bow - in the end Trump also ran in front of the Queen instead of next to or behind here.
Quite different this year.
The Biden couple obviously tried to get everything right.
And, according to her own statement, she invited Queen Elizabeth to the White House.
After the visit to Windsor Castle, Biden has other appointments that are likely to be less harmonious.
The US President will meet Vladimir Putin for the first time on Wednesday.
