He was the most endearing and amiable cartoonist of the glorious era of the
Pilot
years
(whose slogan was
“Mâtin, what a newspaper!”
).
With his great friends Marcel Gotlib and Claire Bretécher, it was not uncommon to find Nikita Mandryka chatting happily at the Mercure hotel on fiesta nights during the Angoulême international comic book festival.
He was also elected grand prize in 1994.
