Indian Ziona Chana, the father of the world's largest family, died at the age of 76, after fathering 94 sons and daughters from 39 wives, all living together under one roof.
Reuters quoted Zuramatanga, a local official in Mizoram state, as saying: "Shana, who resides in the remote village of Paktawung in the Indian city of Tlingenwam, fell ill a few days ago, making him unable to eat.
The total number of Chana's family is 181 people, the largest family in the world, according to Indian media. The huge family lives in a four-storey house with 100 rooms, and his wives live together in a large bedroom or dormitory near Chana's private bedroom.
Several local news reports referred to him as the "world record holder" for the largest family in the world and the family appeared twice on a popular TV show titled "Believe it or not".
