According to US officials and documents obtained on June 14th, the US government was assessing a report of alleged possible leaks at the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant in Guangdong in the past week, but determined that it has not yet reached the "crisis level."

Previously, Framatome, a French company operating a plant, wrote to the U.S. Department of Energy stating that there is an "imminent radiation threat."

CNN reported on June 14 that according to a French company's letter to the US Department of Energy, Framatome accused the Chinese security department of raising the acceptable level of radiation that can be detected outside the Taishan nuclear power plant to avoid shutting down.

CNN quoted sources as saying that the Biden administration believes that the Taishan nuclear power plant facilities are not at a "crisis level."

CNN quoted Puxi sources as saying that Washington does not seem to believe that this situation poses a serious safety threat to plant workers and the Chinese people, but the National Security Council has held several meetings on this in the past week.

Washington also held discussions with experts from the French government and the US Department of Energy, but it is unknown to what extent their contact came.

CNN said Washington refused to explain the assessment, but NSC officials, the State Department and the Department of Energy insisted that if something poses a threat to the Chinese people, the United States must disclose information related to the nuclear accident to the outside world in accordance with the current effective treaty.

Relevant Chinese authorities and nuclear power plants have not yet responded to the incident.

The reason why Framatome contacted the United States was to obtain an exemption, allowing the company to share and use American technical support to solve the problems of the Taishan factory.

Only in the presence of an "immediate radiation threat" will France be allowed to do so.
