At the beginning of this month, a family of three members of Shengyu Tower, Tianshuiwei, Tianshuiwei, was diagnosed with new coronary pneumonia, with the N501Y Alpha variant virus strain. About 10 days later, the group has not expanded further so far (14th).

Professor Yuan Guoyong of the Department of Microbiology of the University of Hong Kong inspected his residence this morning, Little Boss, a pet shop on Tung Choi Street, Mong Kok, and Tak Wing Industrial Building in Tuen Mun where a 17-year-old girl had tutored.

Yuan Guoyong believes that patient-to-human transmission has the greatest chance of infection, followed by animal-to-human transmission.

He suggested that about 140 close contacts receive serum antibody tests before completing quarantine to check whether anyone has ever been infected.

He also said that a 17-year-old girl bought a Dutch imported Chinchilla and took off her mask to play with the Chinchilla after returning home. The chance of the pet being passed on cannot be ruled out, but it is believed that the possibility is low. The authorities have taken samples from the pet shop for testing.

Professor Yuan Guoyong of the Department of Microbiology of the University of Hong Kong and Lin Wenjian, Director of the Centre for Health Protection, inspected his residence this morning, the pet shop Little Boss on Tung Choi Street, Mong Kok, and the Tak Wing Industrial Building in Tuen Mun where the 17-year-old girl had tutored.

Yuan Guoyong proposed three possibilities for infection in this family group, including human-to-human transmission, animal-to-human transmission, and object-to-human transmission.

He believes that human-to-human transmission has the greatest chance of infection, followed by animal-to-human transmission.

The authorities have paired with global genetic databases, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Taiwan, etc., containing more than 100,000 samples from developed regions, but failed to match the same virus genes. For the time being, the case can only be treated as a foreign import.

About 140 close contacts are undergoing quarantine and no one has been diagnosed. Yuan Guoyong described it as good news.

Yuan Guoyong suggested that before completing the quarantine, they should take a serum test for antibodies to see if anyone had been infected, but the virus was too low to test positive.

He explained: "It is possible that someone will quickly return to negative after spreading the virus. The chances of testing positive by swabs are very small. On the contrary, it can be detected by a serum test." He described the current investigation situation as "there is a problem." If it is confirmed. If someone has been infected, their contact history can be further traced.

The confirmed 17-year-old girl went to the Mong Kok pet shop Little Boss to buy a Dutch imported Chinchilla. After returning home, she took off her mask to play.

The authorities have taken more than 50 environmental samples from the pet shop for testing.

Yuan Guoyong pointed out that there have been cases of human-to-human and human-to-human transmission of mink in Europe. Therefore, it is not possible to rule out the possibility of pet transmission, but it is believed that the possibility is low.

In addition, the Hong Kong University laboratory confirmed that the N501Y variant virus can infect rats. Therefore, the authorities will also trap rats in the Tak Wing Industrial Building in Tuen Mun. However, he believes that the patient’s living environment is clean and the rat problem in the industrial building does not seem to be serious.

Yuan Guoyong continued that patients may be infected with frozen food or cargo. The authorities have taken frozen food samples from patients’ homes and will also take food samples from food supply locations in Tin Shui Wai for testing.

Among a family of three, Yuan Guoyong estimated that a 17-year-old girl was the first to be infected.

He said that the initial CT value of girls was very low and then increased rapidly; while the mother's CT value was already very high at the early stage of diagnosis, and then dropped and then increased, inferring that the mother was infected later than the daughter.

Yuan Guoyong described that antibody testing for close contacts is the only means available for the time being.

It is fortunate that the mutant virus has not spread in the local community so far. It cannot be ruled out that there is a hidden transmission chain of the mutant virus in the community. The most important thing at the moment is to ensure that the border control is as drip-proof as possible, and serum testing is required for the immigrants.

He added that every major hospital of the Hospital Authority and the laboratory of the Department of Health are equipped with testing machines, which can complete 500 samples every 8 hours, that is, each hospital can do 1,500 samples in 24 hours. He believes that the Department of Health is ordering Serum test test kit.

He revealed that the cost of each blood serum test is about 40-50 yuan, and the more convenient "blind finger" test costs about 70 yuan, which is cheaper than genetic testing.
