New York (CNN Business) -

CNN international presenter Christiane Amanpour told her audience on Monday that she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

"I had a successful major surgery to remove it, and now I have to undergo several months of chemotherapy to get the best possible long-term prognosis, and I am confident," Amanpour said at the beginning of his daily television show.

Amanpour, 63, is one of the world's best-known journalists, in part for her bold coverage of international conflicts.

The diagnosis has prevented him from being on the air for the past four weeks.

In her live announcement, Amanpour noted that ovarian cancer is too common, affecting "millions of women around the world."

From her London headquarters, Amanpour said she felt 'lucky to have health insurance for her work and some amazing doctors treating me in a country backed, of course, by the brilliant NHS', referring to the UK National Health Service .

The journalist said she wanted to “urge women to become informed about this disease, to undergo as many regular check-ups and scans as possible, to always listen to their body and, of course, to make sure that their legitimate medical concerns are not dismissed or diminished.
