The Consumer Council has recently tested online purchases through 12 transshipment and consolidating companies to test the actual freight charges for transporting the same goods from Japan to Hong Kong.
It turned out that the difference in freight rates was nearly doubled due to the different ways in which companies calculated weight.
In addition, the surveyor also found that the size of the parcel delivered and the shipping cost were different from what was expected, so they inquired with the shipping company and received a reply on the same day stating that because the size of the shipment was measured incorrectly, the shipping cost was 10 times higher.
The actual measurement results also found that the delivery speeds of the 12 shipping companies vary, ranging from 5 days to 22 days.

As for the number of complaints from January to May this year, it has also reached 100.
Taking Japan as an example, the measured area of this time, eight shipping companies that charge in pounds of goods charge from 22 yuan to 38 yuan per pound, with a price difference of more than 70%.

The Consumer Council conducted an actual test from April to May this year, and requested the 12 shipping companies that were tested to transfer three packages containing similar items.
It turns out that the final freight will be affected by different calculation methods, and the actual weight is more cost-effective than the volume weight.

According to the actual measurement, 7 companies charge according to the actual weight of the shipment. The total charge for the three packages for transshipment ranges from 176 yuan to 254 yuan, with an average charge of 201 yuan, and the lowest charges are Buyandship and Gobuyship.
The remaining 5 companies charge by volume and weight. The average charge is 395 yuan, ranging from 264 yuan to 528 yuan, and the highest fee is Weibang International Express.
That is to say, the difference between the two different charging methods is nearly doubled in the final freight.
Delivery time ranges from 5 days to 22 days
In addition, the actual measurement results also found that the delivery speeds of the 12 shipping companies vary, ranging from 5 days to 22 days.
The fastest speeds are GPSS HK and Buyippee, 5 days and 6 days respectively.
It took more than two weeks for MillionDEAL and 4PX to deliver Sifang, 22 days and 19 days respectively.

The Consumer Council also pointed out that after the parcel was delivered to Buyippee's Japanese transit warehouse, the system records at that time stated that the length and width of the parcel was 48x43x40 cm, and the volumetric weight was 16.512 kg, but the actual weight was only 1.1 kg.
Since the total length, width and height exceeds 120 cm, the freight will be charged at 850 yuan (50 yuan per kilogram x 17 kilograms) based on the volumetric weight, together with a handling fee of 20 yuan, for a total of 870 yuan.
However, the surveyor believed that the size and shipping cost of the package did not meet expectations, so they checked with the company and received a reply on the same day stating that the size of the package was incorrectly measured. The size was corrected to 36x26x16 cm, and the actual weight was 1.1 kg and the shipping cost was RMB 75 (50 yuan per kilogram x 1.5 kilograms), plus the handling fee, a total of 95 yuan will be charged.
The company later replied to the Consumer Council stating that errors may occur due to the use of machines that automatically measure the weight and dimensions of shipments.
