The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and the Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, asked the population to wait for the results of the official investigation into the possible causes of the collapse of an elevated section of the city's metro from Mexico on May 3, which left 26 dead.
The authorities' message came in response to a report in The New York Times on Sunday, which concluded that construction failures appear to have caused the collapse.
