- In the 2019/2020 school year, a total of 7,280 children and young people attended grammar schools, secondary schools and technical colleges, 136 more than in the previous year.
This emerges from the controlling report that Manuel Mares recently presented to the district committee.
The district spent 1,423 euros in material costs per pupil per year, and a further 138 euros were due for school transport.
Otherwise the numbers climbed upwards as well.
"Yes, we have a significant increase in schools," replied district treasurer Gerhard de Biasio to a corresponding request from Andreas Hallmannsecker (FWG).
In addition to the higher number of students, this is also due to the higher depreciation, building maintenance and IT equipment.
In the current year alone, the district will invest another 2.18 million euros in IT.
"The schools themselves no longer consume," emphasized the district treasurer.
91 new hires and 51 terminations at the district office
Essentially, the 2020 budget year went according to plan, Mares reported. In individual areas, there were additional costs due to measures due to the corona pandemic. In other areas, the restriction of administrative services had in turn led to shortfalls in income. The pandemic, for example, had a massive impact on the workforce in the district office. "The new hires, primarily in the area of the health department, went up by 89 percent," explained department head Sabrina Cecco-Stark. The 91 new hires were offset by 51 redundancies and eleven retirees. “The number of layoffs sounds like a lot, but it's easy to explain,” says Cecco-Stark. "There were also many people from the medical field,who, for example, have resumed their studies after a temporary job with us. But there were also some for whom it was too stressful. "
Positive feedback from the population
Vice District Councilor Jens Zangenfeind (FWG) it was important to give the employees feedback from the citizens at this point.
"The public image of the district office has changed positively," said the mayor of Hausham, citing as an example the registration office, with which the population has a particularly high level of contact.
"It's a good mix of a fresh team and experienced people."
