Summer work on the RER B: users can count on Zoov electric bicycles

From July 10, the southern part of the line will be largely closed. To make up for the lack of trains, in addition to subs

Users of the RER B line to the south have known this for months: the summer will be (very) complicated because of the annual modernization work of the rail network.

“From July 10 to August 20, traffic will be severely disrupted between the Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse and Parc de Sceaux stations,” says RATP.

As usual, replacement buses will be put in place.

But a little originality: the RATP offers users the benefit of 15 free minutes to borrow a Zoov electrically-assisted bicycle.

Registrations have been open for a few days to benefit from it.

The works on the RER B, which will take place from July 10 to August 20 between the stations of Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse and Parc de Sceaux, will result in total traffic disruptions.

LP / C.CH.

Since 2017, this start-up based in Vanves (Hauts-de-Seine) has been deploying a fleet of self-service electric bicycles in the Paris-Saclay sector.

“With more than 550 bikes available along the southern line of the RER B between Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse and Bourg-la-Reine, we rely on a system of electric bikes available 24 hours a day, very easily accessible via our mobile application, ”says Zoov.

Enhanced offer

Stations in the immediate vicinity of Courcelle-sur-Yvette, Gif-sur-Yvette, La Hacquinière, Bures-sur-Yvette, Orsay-Ville, Le Guichet, Palaiseau, Les Baconnets, Fontaine-Michalon, La Croix-de- stations Berny, Sceaux and Robinson are already in place. During the summer works on the RER B, Zoov will extend its service to the stations of Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, Lozère, Palaiseau-Villebon and Massy-Palaiseau. "This summer 2021, all of the stations located between Massy-Palaiseau and Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse will be equipped with electric bicycle stations", announces Zoov, which will strengthen the offer of certain stations which will become temporary terminals during the works. (Les Baconnets, Massy-Palaiseau, Palaiseau, Le Guichet and Orsay-Ville).

Holders of a Navigo pass or an Imagine R pass will have 15 minutes of free travel per day, paid for by RATP.

Travelers who do not have a subscription can also discover the service with a promo code (RATPZOOV15) by downloading the Zoov application.

"In short, we will still have a hard time"

On the user side, this announcement does not arouse overwhelming enthusiasm.

For Audrey, “the initiative is interesting”.

“But a free 15-minute round trip is not enough given that the line is cut in two places from July 24 to August 11.

15 minutes a day is short if you live in Gif-sur-Yvette and work in Antony or Paris.

In short, we will still struggle, as during the cuts for the works two years ago.

"

Anaïs, in her twenties, regrets that this does not go further. “The idea is good, but I do not understand why to take charge only 15 minutes, she confides. I feel doubly penalized: my RER will not work, I will have very long travel times but my Navigo pass subscription will remain the same, and if I want to use an electric bike, I will have to pay. It could have tempted me, but I will not test if I have to pay an additional sum. "

Jean, a resident of Bures-sur-Yvette, is rather tempted.

"Since the time I said I have to try to get on my bike," he smiles.

We are offered the first 15 minutes, and after that it's 20 cents an additional minute, it's not excessive.

I inquired, but not yet registered.

Between my home and Orsay-Ville train station, there is less than 3 km.

This is the opportunity to leave my car and get started.

Who knows, maybe this will convert me permanently.
