"Brustmanns Lust - Music out of the blue" is the name of the evening with which the river festival opens on July 9th.

He will show: Music always survives everything.

Mr. Brustmann, we can finally start again.

How long have you not been on stage due to the pandemic?

Josef Brustmann:

I know that for sure, my last appearance was on February 26, 2020. “Ash Wednesday of the Cabaret Artists” in the Berlin Theater des Westens, together with Georg Schramm and Arnulf Rating.

From the audience point of view, that was my biggest solo appearance.

And then knockdown, excuse me lockdown, but no matter, it comes out to be the same for us stage people.

That was a wild fall from hell.

How did you experience and survive the performance and event bans and the various restrictions?

And do you think everything will be fine now?

Brustmann:

The next few months will be calm.

We have choices.

After the Germans were initially happy about the makers of the pandemic, they then hit them all the harder.

With Corona you now lose elections.

Corona will die out for us.

I used the time and wrote a nice book.

Now I'm looking for a publisher, it can take a while.

Samuel Beckett, who later won the Nobel Prize for Literature, received 43 rejections for his first novel;

I might have to factor in a few more.

After all, I had a damn nice, exciting time, even without money.

When you take the stage at the River Festival, what do you look forward to the most?

Brustmann:

On people.

To people who laugh and are curious and who are happy that the music always outlives everything.

Is there a new stage program?

What are you passionate about cabaret?

Brustmann:

I'm coming with my own band for the first time.

All wonderful musicians, I drove through the program like in a carriage, if anyone can still understand that today, a noble carriage.

And then there is a lot of music and a lot of songs, my favorite songs, just as you please.

Musically, there is a wide range of folk, rock'n roll, ballad, Franz Schubert, trashpolka, Bavarian elegy - a wild mixture, simply because I could never choose between all these heavenly music worlds.

How often does the word "Corona" appear in your piece?

Brustmann

: I think this word has worn off like an old penny, which is no longer valid today.

An elderly acquaintance had a little weakness, a huge story with all the Corona circumstances.

“The next time I won't get it, the Red Cross,” she said to me, next time she'd rather stay at home.

Except for Spahn, nobody is in the mood for Corona anymore, Lanz maybe still, oh yes and Lauterbach, which is also getting quieter.

You grew up in Waldram and know the Loisachstadt like the back of your hand.

So the prelude to the river festival is practically a home game for you.

Brustmann:

Yes, it's getting started.

The day before we play an open air in the courtyard of the Valentin Museum in Munich, so we can practice a little.

Because you're always nervous at home games, even if you're an old fox.

I sing a most beautiful Loisach song to the Wolfratshausers.

It's actually a song from the Isar, but you don't have to tell you that.

The appearances at this beautiful festival in this ingenious place were always absolute highlights for me.

It will certainly be even nicer than in Berlin.

I'm so happy.
