Project learning is one of the key items in the Curriculum Development Program of the Education Bureau, and it is an indispensable learning experience for students at the secondary level.

Starting from 2019-20, the school will reform the interdisciplinary project study in the school, and the new study theme is "Our Museum".

Through this study, the school hopes that students can learn from the past and learn from the present and look at the world.

The study activities are conducted by all secondary and secondary students led by the entire school. Students will experience interdisciplinary classroom teaching, large lectures, group studies, museum visits and other learning activities, try to apply what they have learned, integrate them, and design "our museum" in a group.

In addition, the study content also includes making museum brochures (text reports), museum exterior and floor plans, museum models, etc.

"Our Museum" project study supports the four major goals of our school-based curriculum, including C Creative full of creativity, W Well-rounded development, S Self-regulated self-regulation and F Far-seeing vision.

Students can solve the problems encountered in the study through the knowledge of different subjects, break the old subject-led learning framework, allow students to develop high-level thinking and creativity (C Creative), improve multiple talents and humanistic literacy; cultivate students high-level thinking , Problem-solving ability, creative thinking and collaboration ability (W Well-rounded); and can improve self-thinking ability and self-regulated ability (S Self-regulated) from the process of learning and thinking about the design of others, and by visiting different museums, students can Jump out of the classroom and broaden your learning horizons (F Far-seeing).

Due to the epidemic prevention measures during the epidemic, it is difficult to go out and visit, and it is also difficult for teachers and students to communicate and cooperate in the school.

However, the teachers and students of our school hope to overcome obstacles and continue to learn in the new normal under various restrictions.

The school divides all secondary and secondary students into 24 groups, and each group arranges a teacher as a group tutor to support students in different research activities.

A different project study experience set sail in this different new normal.

The first stage of the study activity is the "irrigation period", where students learn the basic skills needed in different subjects.

In the online class, the school curriculum development team is responsible for coordinating the teaching activities of each subject: the Chinese teacher teaches students the skills of writing application letters for visiting museums, and the English teacher guides students to use the 5W1H six methods to conceive interview questions, and integrate humanities teachers Teach students how to think about hand-drawn mind maps, brainstorming, and comparative methods.

The coordinating teacher of the Curriculum Development Group also organized three full-level online courses to teach students the skills of project study (such as interview and survey skills).

In the above activities, students are equipped with the basic ability to conduct thematic inquiry to meet the next stage-the "growth period".

The "highlight" of the second stage of "growth" is to conduct museum inspections.

Students need to design a route by themselves and visit several museums to complete group tasks, including learning tasks such as visits, visits, and data collection.

Under the epidemic situation, the school has changed the originally planned outings for museum inspection activities to different corners of the school. Through augmented reality and virtual reality (AR/VR) technologies, students are guided to visit virtual museums around the world (such as the British Museum, Van Gogh Museum, Luowu Folk Museum, Hong Kong Space Museum Astronomical Park, Hong Kong Science Museum: Five Hundred Years Special Exhibition of Robots, etc.) and complete the study tasks.

Trained student docents are responsible for explaining the characteristics of different museums to teachers and students, leading students to learn the humanistic spirit of different places, and fostering students' global vision.

Students can also improve their interview skills and communication skills through interviews with docents.

The third stage is the "harvest period".

After the students have gone through the first two stages of learning activities, they must design their own museum under the leadership of the group instructor.

In addition to the theme and introduction of the museum, students should also think about the location of the museum, the significance of establishing the museum, drawing the appearance of the museum, writing the collection introduction and the wishes of the founder, etc., and make short introduction videos to report to other students.

Although the task is arduous, with the efforts of the students, the "Urban Legend Museum", "Crossing Museum", "Milk Tea Museum" and "Dessert Museum" have been launched.

After hard work, what awaits them is the teacher's appreciation and praise.

The school's project study activities have awards such as the best presentation team award and the best museum suggestion design award.

In addition, there is also an award for the best project study process to commend students who have worked hard in the process.

If the epidemic is relieved, the school will even lead the winning group to visit museums around the world in different countries/regions, appreciate the vast and boundless world of humanities, and explore more infinite possibilities!

Luo Junpeng, a secondary-level classmate, said, “It is a pity that I can’t go out to visit museums because of the epidemic, but I also thank the school for preparing many virtual museums for us to inspect, which has benefited me a lot.” Another classmate Liang Zhuoying pointed out, “Thank you. The leadership and guidance of the group tutors enabled us to think deeply about the deep meaning of the exhibits and enable students to devote themselves to learning!"

I hope that the epidemic will pass soon, so that teachers and students Chen Huang can visit more museums and feel the beauty of the humanistic world!
