“
Ms. Adam (Audrey, Renée, Simone), counselor in social and family economy of the solidarities pole of a departmental council; 14 years of service. Killed in the exercise of her functions
”, it is written in the decree signed on June 11, with effect from June 4. The young woman, 36 years old and mother of two, was shot dead by an 83-year-old man whom she was following and to whom she had announced, shortly before, her imminent transfer. The octogenarian then committed suicide.
The murder of Audrey Adam occurred a week after that of Brigadier Eric Masson, killed during an anti-drug operation in Avignon, and a few weeks after that of Stéphanie Monfeture, at the Rambouillet police station (Yvelines), by a Tunisian whose mode operative corresponds to the calls of the jihadist group Islamic State. The discretion in which the social worker was buried, without a minister and without a camera, in the privacy of her village of 684 inhabitants, north of Troyes, and without national homage, particularly moved the profession, which denounces an "
invisibility
".
Since this murder, social workers have called for the "
creation of an observatory of violence
", "
recognition in a risky profession
", additional budgetary resources, and "
that a national tribute to Audrey Adam be offered to her family
", according to an online petition that has collected more than 46,000 signatures. According to three of the initiators, the petition must be delivered to Emmanuel Macron soon, as soon as the 50,000 signatures are reached. According to the latest official data, "
social action professionals
", including social workers, are nearly 100,000 in France, about 90% of women.
