Donald Trump: Emails prove attempts to manipulate elections

2021-06-18T20:10:18.292Z

In the weeks after his election bankruptcy, Donald Trump put pressure on the Justice Department - with the aim of spreading unfounded fraud myths. E-mails now show the sometimes horrified reactions of the addressees.

Hardly a day goes by without new revelations about dubious events during the reign of former US President Donald Trump.

More e-mails have now become public that show the force with which Trump pressed the Justice Department in December 2020.

He apparently wanted to get the incumbent minister to investigate the baseless allegations of the Trump camp about alleged election fraud.

Had Jeffrey Rosen given in to that pressure, these conspiracy myths would have been given some legitimacy.

Comparable mails were already in circulation at the beginning of June, at that time it was about the unfounded "Italygate" story.

The mails were disclosed by the Committee on Supervision and Reform in the US House of Representatives.

Among other things, the British Guardian reports on it.

Among other things, the new news shows that a Trump assistant sent an email to Rosen and senior judicial officer Richard Donoghue on December 14, 2020 at 4:57 p.m.

It contains allegations of alleged election fraud in the state of Michigan.

Now an hour later, Trump announced that the former Attorney General Willam Barr had lost his job.

He was succeeded by Rosen, with Donoghue as number two.

I couldn't get an appointment for Giuliani

The then Trump chief of staff, Mark Meadows, also tried several times to negotiate an appointment for Rudy Giuliani with Rosen.

At the time, he was already Donald Trump's personal lawyer and, as such, was also entrusted with spreading election fraud.

Rosen flatly refused such an appointment.

Then in January Meadows tried to get Rosen to investigate Italygate.

In this baseless conspiracy story, Italian military satellites play a role, which are said to have influenced voting machines in the USA from afar.

Rosen forwarded the corresponding email to Donoghue.

His reaction: "Pure madness".

Meadows did not want to comment on the new revelations when asked, according to CNN.

The House of Representatives, however, is demanding that he and other parties involved make a swift statement.

Carolyn Maloney, Chair of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, said: "President Trump has tried to infiltrate the main judicial authority in this country in an audacious way to steal an election he has lost."
