New York-Sana
Today, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, called for the start of a political process and a comprehensive settlement to resolve the crisis in Yemen.
Sputnik news agency quoted Griffiths as saying during his last briefing before the UN Security Council today, before assuming his duties as Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator: "A comprehensive political process and a settlement that includes all must begin and Yemen is removed from the conflict cycles," calling for the commitment of leaders political dialogue, away from foreign interference.
Griffiths added that any political settlement must reflect the interests of the various Yemeni parties and guarantee the interests and rights of those affected, noting at the same time the role of the Sultanate of Oman in mediating between the Yemeni parties.
With regard to the continued closure of Sanaa airport and the imposition of stifling restrictions on oil derivatives through the port of Hodeidah, Griffiths stressed that these measures are unjustified and must be dealt with urgently.
Yemen has witnessed aggression by the Saudi regime and its allies since March of 2015, leaving tens of thousands of victims and massive damage to the country's infrastructure.
