After the Nicaraguan government detained 13 opposition leaders - 4 of them presidential candidates - the Organization of American States (OAS) held an extraordinary virtual session in which it condemned the events. The resolution was endorsed by 26 of the 34 active member countries. Pretelin says that the statement from Mexico and Argentina on the situation in Nicaragua is worrying. The analyst adds that the lack of leadership on the part of the OAS and that Daniel Ortega is taking advantage of the crisis of ungovernability in the region would have alarming effects for Nicaragua.
