Namibia decreed on Tuesday that public gatherings will now be limited to ten people, in an attempt to curb the exponential rise in new coronavirus infections in the country.
In a speech, President Hage Geingob said that
"the situation has worsened"
over the past four weeks, with a dramatic increase in the number of cases, hospitalizations and deaths.

According to the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), this country of 2.5 million inhabitants is currently the one with the highest number of new cases per million inhabitants per day, after the Seychelles .

said Hage Geingob, who contracted the virus last month with his wife.
Only ten people will be allowed to meet per event, which should not last more than two hours if it takes place indoors.
In-person instruction in schools will be suspended and all contact sports will be banned.
These new measures will last at least until June 30. The country has recorded a total of 67,021 cases, of which more than 1,200 were detected on Tuesday. In total, the virus has killed 1,040 people.
