Amberg - Last Friday (June 11th) there were again several calls from wrong police officers in the Amberg area *.

Among other things, the fraudsters were able to steal a total amount in the lower five-digit range from two elderly women from Amberg.

A few days earlier, fraudsters had been successful with a call center scam.

The police are now urgently warning against such shock calls. 

Amberg: Fraudsters take older women out of their money 

The two older injured women, both 81 years old and from the Amberg urban area, received several calls on Friday from people posing as police officers.

They informed both of the injured parties that their money was no longer safe at their bank.

An alleged "chief detective" manipulated the two of them to such an extent that they ultimately went to their bank and removed a low five-digit amount from their account.

Subsequently, the cash was handed over to an unknown man in the city of Amberg. 

Amberg: Married couple becomes victim of supposed "son" 

Just a few days earlier, an elderly couple in Burglengenfeld, Schwandorf district *, fell victim to a similar fraud.

In this case, the unknown perpetrator pretended to be the couple's son and phoned them for three days.

He said that he wanted to buy a property for an unbeatable offer and that he was already in close contact with a notary.

The couple then handed over a higher five-digit amount. 

Amberg: The police are urgently warning against fraudulent calls 

The specialist commissioner of the Amberg police station is investigating the above-mentioned cases and warns of such fraudulent calls in a press release from the Upper Palatinate police headquarters, especially in connection with false police officers.

The police advise people who are contacted by strangers by phone never to give information about personal circumstances and not to be pressured to never give money to strangers.

The police warn that government agencies never ask for cash or valuables in this way. 

Amberg: Tips to protect yourself from the scam 

Further tips for those affected and relatives: Inform family members and neighbors about this scam. Speak openly about this phenomenon in the family, especially with older loved ones. Do not store large amounts of cash at home and only talk to someone you trust about money. Money transactions should also be discussed with this person of trust beforehand. In the event of such calls, hang up immediately and dial the emergency number 110 or contact the local police. In general, if you have the slightest doubt, you should dial 110 police emergency number.
