To commemorate the martyrs of the Ottoman genocide massacres against the Syriacs “Sefu”, a prayer was held this evening in the Saint Georges Patriarchal Cathedral in Bab Touma.
His Holiness Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and all the East for the Syriac Orthodox, the supreme head of the Syriac Church in the world, affirmed in his speech that prayer today is in order to remember what happened to the Syriacs and others of genocide, as millions of Christians and other residents of the region were subjected to extermination and for the peace of the world because man He deserves to live in security and peace, which is what God wanted for all of humanity.
His Holiness Patriarch Ephrem II added that we gather today to pray and forgive, but at the same time we ask those who committed these massacres to admit the injustice they committed against their brothers in humanity, as we pray that God will inspire us and to do everything in our power to prevent the recurrence of these massacres and to enter peace in Our hearts and the hearts of others, and so that our example may be the Lord Jesus Christ, the Messenger of love and peace.
After the prayer, a candlelight procession was held from St. George’s Patriarchal Cathedral to the Syriac Martyrs Garden, where His Holiness Patriarch Ephrem II laid a wreath at the memorial to the martyrs of the Ottoman genocide against the Syriacs “Sefu”.
