Tens of thousands of participants are expected from June 30 to July 2 at the “

Generation Equality Forum

”, the most important UN convention on gender equality since 1995, organized in Paris and in line with the objective of lead to "

concrete commitments

".

All the states of the world have been invited but on the condition that they genuinely commit to advancing gender equality, explained Wednesday, June 16 at a press conference Delphine O, Ambassador and Secretary General of the Forum . “

Each state, institution or company will have to make a very concrete announcement, whether political, legislative or financial. We have worked upstream to ensure that these announcements are new and substantial

", explained Delphine O."

The time has come to make solid and lasting commitments to make our societies fully egalitarian

", underlined for her part the Minister Delegate in charge of Equality between women and men, Élisabeth Moreno.

The forum will be launched by Emmanuel Macron during an opening ceremony at the Élysée Palace, in the presence of the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres.

The event should initially have taken place in 2020 - for the 25th anniversary of the “

Beijing Platform for Action

”, a benchmark text for global actions in favor of girls and women, adopted at the Beijing World Conference in 1995 - but had been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"

A global acceleration plan

" for equality

"

Two regressive trends justify the raison d'être of this forum

", explained Delphine O: on the one hand, the rise in power of "

conservative and retrograde states, openly opposed to women's rights, including at the gates of the 'Europe

', and on the other hand the consequences of the health crisis, which has affected women in a '

disproportionate

' way.

A "

global acceleration plan

" for equality must be launched at the Paris Forum, explained the organizers, around six themes: gender-based violence, economic equality, the right to dispose of one's body , feminist action for climate justice, technologies and innovations in the service of equality, and finally “

feminist movements and leaderships

”. Each theme will be addressed by “

action coalitions

” bringing together States, international organizations, civil society and the private sector to develop a “

road map

” and “

ensure its implementation over the next five years

”.
