Homs-Sana

The Abbasid poet al-Hasan bin Hani al-Hakami, known as (Abu Nawas), was the focus of the symposium organized by the Association of University Graduates in Homs, which dealt with his biography and his role in giving the Arabic poem a new insight from what it has known since the pre-Islamic era.

During the symposium, Dr. Ahmed Dahman presented a new reading of the poetry of (Abu Nawas) and the opinions of his contemporaries who differed between the one who found him a great poet and the one who wove it in a mythical image, as well as the loss of his real poetry in a strange amount of poems attributed to him after his death.

Dahman pointed out that (Abu Nawas) his personality was characterized by contradiction in view of the circumstances and nature of his era and his upbringing and in the midst of the components of the era, so he rebelled against his reality and sought to create his own approach to destroy what is prevalent and disturb what is left in the mind to renew the blood of art and self-realization in the era of prosperity.

Dr. Dahman called on all those interested in literature to read the poetry of (Abu Nawas), an accurate and in-depth reading that would lead them to the depths of the text so that they could identify his personality and not be satisfied with the poems inherited from him in which there is debauchery and atheism.

(Abu Nawas) did not claim a science from the sciences of his time, according to Dahman, unless he specialized in it by the scholars of his time, bypassing his orphan and poverty in his early years to be a distinguished personality with a lot of exclusivity, moving between doubt and irony to the world of Sufism.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Ahmed Dahman, born in Salamiyah 1948, obtained a master’s and doctorate from Alexandria University and worked as Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Al-Baath University for 15 years at intervals. He has many books taught in universities and critical books also in the poetry of (Abu Nawas), and he is an arbitrator member in a number of research Which is published in Syria and the Arab countries, and he is the head of the Arabic Empowerment Committee at Al-Baath University.
