Regensburg: 2200 participants cycle over 220,000 kilometers while city cycling
As in 2020, no promotional kick-off event for city cycling could take place this year, as the city of Regensburg * writes in a press release.
In addition, many people still work wholly or partially in the home office.
Shops, leisure facilities and sports facilities are only opening hesitantly.
This means that a large number of routes that the people of Domstadt often cover by bike are no longer available.
Nevertheless, the starting shot for the campaign was fired on June 5th and the interim results look good.
Almost 3,000 people have registered for the climate protection campaign, which is taking place for the tenth time this year.
Around 2200 participants have entered their “cycled” kilometers so far.
As of June 15th, more than 220,000 kilometers have been covered.
Regensburg: Twice as many participants as in 2020 - children and young people also included
With the campaign, the Regensburg-based company is sending out a positive signal for climate protection by cycling everyday routes for 20 days.
The city is particularly pleased that around twice as many people are taking part in the campaign this year than last year.
“This is a sign that the interest in the campaign and in promoting cycling is unbroken,” comments the planning and construction advisor for the city of Regensburg, Christine Schimpfermann.
The commitment in and from schools is also remarkable.

Around 100 of the city cyclists cycled a few extra kilometers last weekend (June 12th and 13th) as part of a special campaign.
In the course of a kilometer hunt with five stations, a solution had to be found.
There were ten prizes for two old town tens and ten times a 25 euro voucher from Westbad - donated by Faszination Altstadt and Stadtwerk.
The hospital brewery supported the campaign with a free bike as a refreshment in between.
Regensburg: Those interested can still register
The climate protection campaign ends on June 25, 2021. Afterwards, the “cycled” kilometers can be entered for another week.
The Regensburg result will be confirmed on July 3, 2021.
How the cathedral city is positioned nationwide will only be revealed in autumn - until then the campaign will still be running.
