Climate protection campaign: 190 teams ready for "urban cycling"

190 teams start this year with the "CITY CYCLING".

The climate protection campaign, which is taking place for the tenth time this year, begins on Sunday in all district communities.

District - The climate protection campaign “STAdtradeln” is in the starting blocks - this year for the tenth time in all 14 municipalities of the district.

The motto “Yes, of course with a bike!” Invites you to get on your bike as a matter of course in everyday life and in your free time.

Starting next Sunday, June 20th, thousands of cyclists will again be collecting kilometers for their team for three weeks.

But you can also join later.

Everyone can take part until Saturday, July 10th.

"The major goal of the international climate protection campaign is to simply but effectively contribute to better air quality by switching to bicycles and to show the flag for cycling," says a press release. "The joy of being outdoors, fitness and having fun together are pleasant side effects." 190 teams from the district have registered so far: kindergartens and schools, parties and offices, associations and religious communities as well as clinics, companies and districts. District coordinator Herbert Schwarz is pleased about the great interest: "That is another 20 teams more than at the same time last year."

However, there will be no big celebration on the occasion of the tenth anniversary due to the corona. Instead, District Administrator Stefan Frey invites you to join in the action “Yes, of course with a bike!” - a call to take motivating photos and videos. Frey himself sets a good example. His short film accompanies the district administrator on the way to the office: “I am faster by bike than by car and I arrive relaxed. It's just a good feeling for the day, ”he says. Anyone who also posts a photo or video on Instagram under the hashtag #jafreilichmitmradl or emails it to jafreilich@stadtradeln-sta.de can win one of 14 restaurant vouchers.

The tours at the beginning are more modest this time, also because of the special circumstances. On Sunday afternoon, Starnberg's “STAdtradler” do a beer garden tour with Mayor Patrick Janik. Gauting, Krailling, Planegg, Neuried and Gräfelfing invite you to the joint opening on Sunday, June 27th, followed by a tour of the Planegg market square. “City cycling” is an action by the Climate Alliance Association. Anyone who lives, works, goes to school or belongs to an association in the Starnberg district can take part - free of charge. You can collect bike kilometers online or on flyers. It is measured by speedometer, app or an honest estimate.
