Despite the relaxed corona situation at the Freising Clinic, there is no breather.

In addition, doctors and nursing staff remain vigilant - especially with a view to autumn.

Freising

- For a few days no corona patient had to be treated at the Freising Clinic, only one new patient was reported on Wednesday.

Despite this positive development, however, the staff remains on guard.

There is no time to breathe.

"If there are no highly contagious patients to be isolated and cared for, this naturally makes patient care easier," says clinic spokesman Sascha Alexander.

Because doctors and nurses would then not have to put on expensive protective clothing every time.

In addition, patients would be easier to relocate or fold.

“But we still have a lot to do.

Our available capacities are well utilized, and more and more patients are coming. "

Stayed at home despite broken bones

After the number of infections had dropped significantly, the backlog of postponed operations in particular kept the hospital staff in suspense over the past few weeks. In the third corona wave, the restrictions on patient care were no longer as strict as they were in the first lockdown in spring 2020. For example, no beds had to be blocked for any Covid 19 patients. "However, at times we were instructed to refrain from interventions that could be planned," reported Alexander. These included knee operations.

Another backlog that has broken through in recent weeks is more striking: A number of patients with more serious injuries, some even with broken bones, would not have dared to go to the emergency room for an examination in the third wave, says Alexander.

Many of them only came when the incidence had dropped significantly.

But here too, operations are slowly returning to normal.

"There are now more 'light' cases in the emergency room."

And Alexander mentions another episode of Corona, which despite all the efforts that the staff had to make, was not without irony: "Like all clinics, we had lower income and revenues year-on-year."

Isolation ward closed for the time being

Since corona patients no longer have to be treated in the clinic, the isolation ward has been closed for the time being.

"The beds of the previous isolation ward were released for normal operation that previously took place on this ward," reports Alexander.

These are internal medicine patients.

"But there is still a small area defined that can serve as an isolation ward if necessary."

Plan from week to week

In any case, the clinic remains at attention.

"In the past few months we have done very well with regularly assessing the risks and planning them with a sense of proportion from week to week," emphasizes Alexander.

"We are assuming that the number of infections will rise again in the autumn, and that we are challenged again." However, the hope is that thanks to the vaccinations, the upward rashes will be weaker.

"One can only urgently ask all citizens to remain prudent."

A problem that existed before the corona pandemic is still preoccupying the clinic - despite all the applause -: the nursing emergency.

"In almost every department there are binding personnel codes, which, due to the lack of personnel, often mean that beds have to be reduced in order to meet these requirements."

The mask requirement in schools remains.

That was decided by the Bavarian cabinet on Tuesday.

And the headmistresses in the Freising district also plead for caution.

Citizens can now have digital vaccination records issued.

Pharmacist Ingrid Kaiser from Freising is happy to take on the task, only one thing worries her.
