The DAB Legislative Council Member Leung Chi-cheung believes that the number of people DQ will be quite large, but thinks that there is no need to conduct by-elections, because the current function of the district councils is only a local advisory structure, and the absence of by-elections will not affect the government’s consultation with district citizens. He also pointed out that some district boards have a small number of people, and the government must explain the future composition of the district boards as soon as possible so that those aspiring to politics know how to stand for election.
According to sources, the government has finalized arrangements for district councilors to swear oaths one by one in July. It is expected that three types of behaviors will fall into the scope of the DQ, including participating in the primary election of the democratic party, lending the office of the congressman as a primary ballot station, and signing the "Ink Drop "No Regrets" in the position statement of the protesters, it is estimated that at least 100 district councillors will be DQ for this.
Leung Chi-cheung quoted an earlier opinion poll by the DAB as saying that the majority of the people agreed to amend the district board election model to conform to the principle of "patriots ruling Hong Kong".
He urged the authorities to publish the relevant "negative list" as soon as possible and make it clear when there will be a new election method.
Another DAB member Zhou Hao-ting pointed out that the sub-committee also has an advisory function, suggesting that the government seriously consider how the future district councils will meet the "patriots ruling Hong Kong". If the district councils are not "really rooted", they can temporarily consult the sub-committee.
He also pointed out that it is difficult for district councilors who write "light time" in their political platforms to convincingly support the Basic Law.
