Recently, there has been a boom in overseas studies in Hong Kong. More and more students want to study abroad, and the UK has become a hot choice for further studies.

Now that the situation in British schools is gradually returning to normal, and there are daily flights between Hong Kong and the UK, students who are interested in studying in the UK this year can let go of their worries and concentrate on studying further information.

Faced with many choices, Mr. Li Zhining, CEO of Amber Education Group, deconstructed the trend of further studies in the UK and other places for students, and is committed to providing one-stop support for further studies.

UK recognized DSE

At present, British universities generally offer three-year bachelor's degree courses, which are one year earlier than universities in Hong Kong. However, in Scotland, the four-year system is required.

As for professional disciplines such as medicine, pharmacy and architecture, the bachelor's courses range from four to six years.

When Hong Kong students choose to study in the UK, Li believes that Hong Kong students have advantages: "British universities recognize the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE), and Hong Kong students can apply for DSE results. The admission qualifications depend on individual university rankings and subject quotas. Generally speaking. In terms of DSE scores, three subjects are required to obtain 4+3+3, and some specialties require 5**+5+5."

Studying in the UK must test the students’ English proficiency. Li suggested that students can participate in English course training beforehand: "Universities will require students to have a certain level of English and obtain a minimum score of 6.0 in the IELTS international English proficiency test. I have no confidence in English ability. I suggest that you can take some basic English course training. Our company also provides a key training course "Excellent Elite Course (APAC)" to assist students. The courses are conducted in a one-to-one manner, and the teacher will formulate it according to the level of the student. Textbooks and regular evaluations to understand the progress of students."

For students who have not yet met the admission requirements for UK universities, they can consider applying for the Foundation, Diploma or International Year 1 and then join the degree program after graduation.

Mr. Li Zhining, Chief Executive Officer of Amber Education Group, explained the trend of further studies in the UK and other places.

Two popular colleges

"British universities have a very diverse curriculum, with far more subject choices than Hong Kong, such as chiropractors, aircraft engineering, disaster management, museology and veterinary courses, so that students can learn more about related majors." Li pointed out that there are two majors that are very popular with Hong Kong people: "In recent years, more students have asked about physical therapy and computer science. Students studying physical therapy only need to complete a bachelor's degree and return to Hong Kong to become a registered physical therapist. There is no need to take other exams. In addition, there is a big data boom around the world. Research and technology in the UK are relatively advanced compared to Hong Kong, and computer science has also become a popular subject."

Boarding High School VS Preparatory College

In addition to university education, British boarding schools are all hot topics in Hong Kong. Lee said that recently there have been more parental consultations about boarding schools: "Firstly, because of the open BNO policy, secondly, parents generally believe that Hong Kong promotes duck-filling education. On the contrary, boarding schools encourage them. Students have a diversified development, hoping to explore the diversified development of their children, and at the same time cultivate self-discipline and independence. Generally, when parents choose a school, location and tuition are the main considerations. York, Bath, and Brighton are the more popular places, and there are more schools to choose from. Many high-ranking schools, such as Brighton College, have tuition fees ranging from 350,000 to 500,000 yuan.

St John's College, Cambridge University

In addition, some parents will send their children to Sixth Form College (preparatory college) for high school courses. The teaching mode of these colleges is very different from that of traditional boarding schools. At the same time, the number of students in some Sixth Form Colleges is less than 200. In order to maintain the college’s Ranking and overall performance, creating extremely high A* and A performance ratio data, thereby improving school rankings, may require students to stay in class or even transfer, there is a certain risk.

Parents often mistakenly think that the colleges located in Oxford are branches of Oxford University, but they should be aware that they have nothing to do with Oxford University.

Parents and students should collect more information or consult with more than one college counselor to obtain objective guidelines and suggestions. Don't get caught by mistakes.

Many parents worry about the living conditions of their children in other places. Amber Education provides guardian services. This service has obtained dual certification from the "British Guardian Organization AEGIS" and the "British Boarding School Association BSA", so that students can receive care and professional advice during their study abroad. And ensure their safety.

Popular study abroad destination outside the UK: Australia

"Australia is a popular study destination for Hong Kong students in recent years. The time zone is relatively close to that of Hong Kong, and the climate is also pleasant and comfortable. The city is also international, gathering students from all over the world. In addition, Australian schools have relatively flexible opening times and curriculums. Enrollment is at the end of February or early March, and some courses can also be enrolled in July. However, due to the epidemic, Australia is temporarily teaching online."

There are three ways to enter Australian courses: The first is for sixth form graduates with DSE scores. If both academic performance and English proficiency meet the requirements of the relevant university, they can directly apply for an Australian university.

Generally speaking, most Australian institutions of higher learning require 3 to 5 subjects in the HKDSE to reach levels 3 to 4, and some colleges and universities require 4 subjects and more to reach levels 4 to 5.

The second way is to apply for basic university courses and then connect to local universities.

The content of this type of course is mostly designed for university subjects. English is a compulsory subject. Students who enroll do not need to take public examinations. They are mainly evaluated by their school scores and attendance rates.

The third way is to study Australian public technical colleges (Technical and Further Education), Registered Training Organizations (Registered Training Organizations), or vocational education and training courses provided by universities and secondary schools. Most of these courses focus on practicality and Professional vocational training.
