Live broadcast from Geneva

US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet today (Wednesday) for a first summit, but the two powers do not anticipate a breakthrough in the many disputes between them.

The meeting, in the Swiss city of Geneva, takes place at a time when the two presidents agree that relations between Washington and Moscow are at an all-time low. For four months since the Democratic president entered the White House, they have insulted Zeb in it. Biden called Putin a "killer" and accused him of cyber-attacks against American interests, undermining democracy after the imprisonment of opposition leader Alexei Navalny and interfering in US elections.

The talks are expected to last between four and five hours, after lengthy negotiations between the parties on the formulation of the agenda. Putin and his advisers will be the first to reach the summit site, at Villa La Grange, an 18th-century mansion nestled on Lake Geneva. Biden and his advisers will then arrive, and the Swiss president will welcome the two leaders.

Initially, Biden and Putin will hold a small meeting, in conjunction with their foreign ministers.

Further discussions will expand and will include five senior advisers from each side.

Putin will then enter a press conference alone, and Biden will enter one of his own afterwards.

The White House opposed a joint press conference in order not to give the Russian president a stage, after the bizarre appearance alongside former President Donald Trump in 2018.
