Due to its distinguished location and the natural components it possesses, Homs Governorate constitutes a fertile soil for the establishment of promising investment projects, especially in the industrial sector and the Hassya Free Zone.
Engineer Bassam Al-Saeed, director of Homs industry, told SANA reporter that a number of investment projects in the governorate would have many strengths if they were praised because they depend on natural resources and raw materials available in the governorate and achieve high rates of added value exceeding 40 percent, in addition to that their products will be required for the local and foreign market. It can be praised for its proximity to the availability of natural resources and local raw materials, as well as for its competitiveness due to its low production costs.
He explained that among them are projects for the production of electric energy from alternative energies (sun and wind) and the production of bricks and bricks in the eastern countryside of Homs due to the region’s richness in the raw material of sand and clay, and projects for the production of glass and crystal in the town of Al-Qaryatayn due to the availability of silica sand, and projects for the production of caustic that are used as raw materials in the detergent industry. The material in the raw salt of Palmyra can also be commended for projects in the two villages for the production of silica, ceramics and porcelain from quartz sand.
He continued, among the promising projects that can be praised are also projects for the production of marble blocks, where marble quarries in Palmyra and salt production projects in Palmyra, in addition to an integrated agricultural, animal and industrial project in the Syrian Badia to produce various types of meat and dairy derivatives, the production of organic fertilizers, electric power and household gas from dung the animals.
Dr. Bassam Al-Mansour, Director of the Industrial City in Hasya, indicated that the investment opportunities in the manufacturing sector include a project for the production of metal construction parts, the manufacture of prefabricated buildings, the extraction of vegetable oils, the recycling of car tires, the production of solar water heaters and the production of photovoltaic cells, while the investment opportunities include in the investment and real estate development sector. Establishing a residential island in the industrial city of Hassia, noting the package of decisions supporting investment and the facilities provided in the industrial cities to encourage investment, especially import substitution industries.
Engineer Walid Al-Qadi, director of the Free Zone in Hisya, pointed out that there are no investments in it at the present time, and it has stopped working despite the region’s readiness and importance, including the good investment advantages it contains, as it was partially rehabilitated after being subjected to theft and sabotage as a result of terrorism in 2012, and it is located on an area Approximately 85 hectares, expandable and serviced by infrastructure to receive all commercial, industrial and service activities.
The importance of the Hisya Free Zone comes from its geographical location, which is in the middle of Syria, and its location near the international road to Iraq, in addition to the adjacent dry port, which speeds up the transportation of goods to and from the Free Zone, in addition to its presence next to the railway node and the Industrial City of Hassia, given that the city is served by infrastructure and services. Lots of factories and investment facilities for all types of commercial and industrial investment activities.
