Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the transitional housing project in Tung Tau, Yuen Long today (16th). He said that he had found land and buildings that could provide about 15,000 transitional housing units, of which 56% were privately owned. Provided by the developer.
Lam Cheng said that Tongxin Village is a three-party cooperation between citizens, businessmen and officials. The land area is about 230,000 square feet. It is leased by Sun Hung Kai Properties at a nominal rent of 1 yuan for a period of at least 8 years.
Tongxin Village is built and operated by the Anglican Welfare Association, while the government provides construction funds, and is led by the Transitional Housing Task Force under the Transport and Housing Bureau.
Tongxin Village will be completed in mid-2022 and will provide 1,800 units.
The project has public spaces such as recreational and sports facilities and children's amusement facilities, as well as stores, living supplies borrowing halls and community kitchens.
The project also uses plants as a shading screen to reduce the impact of the bent-winged fireflies that inhabit nearby wetlands and are unique to Hong Kong.
