New York (CNN) -

MacKenzie Scott, one of the richest women in the world, and her husband Dan Jewett donated $ 2.74 billion to organizations that focus on the arts and fighting racial discrimination.

The separation agreement from her divorce with her ex-husband, Amazon (AMZN) CEO Jeff Bezos, made Scott one of the richest people in the world.

She and Bezos were married for 25 years.

At $ 193.5 billion, Bezos is currently the richest person in the world, and MacKenzie Scott's fortune is valued at around $ 59 billion, according to Forbes.

Scott married Jewett in March.

In May 2019, shortly before his divorce from Bezos was final, Scott joined The Giving Pledge, a campaign created by Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, and Melinda Gates that encourages extremely wealthy people to contribute the bulk of his wealth to philanthropic causes.

Jewett also became committed to the cause after marrying MacKenzie Scott.

"It is strange to be writing a letter stating that I plan to give away most of my wealth during my life, since I have never tried to gather the kind of wealth necessary to feel that saying something like that would have a particular meaning," he said on the website of the organization.

Scott's net worth has skyrocketed as Amazon shares surged during the pandemic.

In July 2020, he announced that he had gifted $ 1.7 billion of his fortune to 116 organizations in "areas of need," including racial equality, LGBTQ + equality, functional democracy and climate change.

And in December, Scott announced that he donated another $ 4.2 billion to 384 organizations.

With this recent donation, a total of $ 8.5 billion in donations has been added in less than a year.

In a blog post, MacKenzie Scott listed the 286 organizations he recently donated to, which are "high-impact organizations in categories and communities that have historically been underfunded and ignored," he said.

The list includes the Fund for Racial Equity in Journalism (REJ), the Asian American Federation (AAF), the Emerging LGBTQ Leaders of Color fund, and the Equity Project. National.

In a post, MacKenzie Scott said she wants to "downplay privileged voices" and "give focus" to others.

"People fighting inequalities deserve a central place in the stories about the change they are creating," he said.

"Me, Dan, a constellation of researchers, administrators and advisers - we are all trying to give away a fortune made possible by systems that needed a change."
