The barons of the PSOE urge to complete the relief in Andalusia

Pressure grows for Díaz to give up command of the party's largest federation and not at the end of the year

The pressure for Susana Díaz to leave the general secretary of the PSOE of Andalusia now, without waiting for the regional congress at the end of the year, is multiplying every time from more fronts.

And at the highest level, without Ferraz having made a move.

The conclusion, in public or in private, of different territorial barons of the party is that the forcefulness of their defeat in the primaries to elect the socialist candidate for the presidency of the Junta, by 17 points of difference, compared to Juan Espadas, does not he leaves no choice but to resign as head of the main socialist federation.

Guillermo Fernández Vara was the first to point out Diaz's departure on Tuesday. "If you ask me what I would do, then I would probably go," said the Extremaduran president, the only one of the territorial leaders who belongs to the federal leadership of the PSOE. A supporter of Díaz in the 2017 primaries in which Pedro Sánchez prevailed, as did the vast majority of barons at the time, Fernández Vara remarked in an interview on the Cope network that the Andalusian leader "should not extend much in time" a decision that in his opinion is inescapable. Fernández Vara, who also chairs the Federal Political Council, the body in which the nine regional presidents of the PSOE and the rest of the general secretaries of the party federations meet, lost the Junta de Extremadura in 2011 and recovered it in the following elections.

"Time tells you in the end if you were right or wrong", was his final reflection.

Extremadura PSOE sources differentiate the case of Díaz and that of Fernández Vara, who was ousted by an alliance "against nature" between PP and IU.

The Socialists, with 30 seats, had the support of the three from IU, who chose to make José Antonio Monago (32) president, who achieved the only victory for the PP in the community since the restoration of democracy.

"Undeniable result"

"The result is incontestable, the militancy clearly opted for Swords," stressed María Chivite, president of Navarra, to EL PAÍS. The mayor of Seville was proclaimed the winner with a support of 55%, while the former president of the Board remained at 38.4%. Chivite highlighted that Díaz announced on the same Sunday night, after learning of his defeat, that he would not stand for re-election as secretary general. “I think he should do that replacement sooner rather than later, as soon as possible, and do it in an orderly manner for the good of the game. I understand that she will do so because she has always had the PSOE ahead of her and is loyal to the PSOE ”, she opined against Díaz's intention to continue for half a year as general secretary of the Andalusian Socialists. “You have to interpret the results and be an active part of that transition that needs to be made.I am sure that he will do it well ”, confided the president of the provincial community.

The Valencian Ximo Puig also spoke in this regard: “When there is an election that links the social leader, it is evident that it affects the leadership of the party. And at this moment the leadership of the PSOE in Andalusia is Swords and events should develop in that direction, ”he said. “Change and unity, out of respect for colleagues. We must not fall into confrontation ”, concluded the president of the Valencian Community, who was with Díaz in the 2017 process.

"Democracy spoke on Sunday, it has aimed for renewal and unity and that is the path we have to continue," said Concha Andreu, president of La Rioja. “I am not the one who should tell other colleagues how and when to take the steps or organize their internal processes. You have to be very respectful with the decisions and with the times that they decide to mark based on their own needs. The important thing is to continue strengthening the socialist project and the party to win the elections and I trust that my colleagues will take the steps focused on this objective, ”he answered the direct question of whether Díaz should leave the general secretariat of the PSOE-A.

The president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, did not speak but from his surroundings they emphasize that "the only objective after a primary is to have the highest degree of cohesion possible."

"It is something that corresponds to Espadas and Díaz, they are two very capable people and we are convinced that they will work in that union of the party."

Another leader who has spoken in public is the president of Asturias, Adrián Barbón.

“The turnout has been very high, which shows the strength of a live game.

Now, to join forces so that Espadas is the next president of Andalusia ”, he stressed after knowing the result of the primaries, sliding between the lines that the renewal at the head of Andalusian socialism must be completed.
