Daraa-Sana
The process of harvesting the tomato crop began in all its cultivation areas in Daraa Governorate, amid high productivity indicators.
The farmers called on the concerned authorities to secure markets for the disposal of production at fair prices equivalent to the costs of production, as marketing is subject to supply and demand, and the traders of Al-Hal markets and the owners of the console factories control prices at the peak of production, stressing that they were exposed to large losses due to the huge production in exchange for the weak demand in previous seasons and the high costs of agriculture and the marketing process.
For his part, Ahmed Hegazy, head of the Agricultural Affairs Office of the Daraa Farmers Union, indicated to the SANA Economic Bulletin that tomato farmers in the governorate continued the cultivation process despite the losses they suffered in the past three seasons, indicating that the high prices of agricultural production and labor requirements such as the prices of seeds, fertilizers and pesticides and the lack of fertilizer in sufficient quantities and times The limited quantities and fuels in the nursery stage of the seedlings cause the tomato growers to lose, which necessitates the concerned authorities to find suitable exchange markets or open the door for export.
Engineer Hassan Al-Ahmad, head of the Department of Planning and International Cooperation in the Directorate of Agriculture in Daraa, indicated that the governorate comes first in the cultivation and production of open tomatoes with its summer and thickened bushes, pointing out that the planned area for the current season is 2546 hectares, of which farmers have implemented an area of more than 2870 hectares, while the average productivity is 150 tons. per hectare.
He added: The Directorate of Agriculture, in cooperation with the concerned authorities in the governorate, has secured the necessary fuels for the cultivation process, according to the available quantities.
