On the entrance to the birthplace of Jean de La Fontaine, in Château-Thierry (Aisne), a sign warns that it will be closed on June 17.
And for good reason: this small museum must receive the President of the Republic and his wife, accompanied by actor Fabrice Luchini, in the afternoon.
The day before, everyone was agitated in the city for this visit, devoted to the promotion of the French language.
What could be better, in fact, than this great fabulist known all over the world, and whose 400th birthday will be celebrated on July 8, to gather around French?

Built in the 16th century between courtyard and garden, it was the lair of La Fontaine from 1617. It was there, in 1621, that Jean was born, whose birth certificate is displayed in a room.
Almost nothing, apart from this official manuscript and the large key to the entrance, remains from the time of Jean de La Fontaine.
"We have chosen to evoke the atmosphere of the 17th century in the salons
," explains Nicolas Rousseau, director of the house.
