The endangered green toad has moved within Karlsfeld: from a large construction site to a specially created habitat.

Karlsfeld - Of all things, the Erlbau construction site at the Karlsfeld train station was populated by a population of green toads at the beginning of the year.

But there the animal has no future (because at some point they will probably continue to build there).

That is why Bayernwerk Netz GmbH, the Landesbund für Vogelschutz (LBV), the Bavarian Cultural Land Foundation and the Lower Nature Conservation Authority of Dachau have built a new habitat.

Yesterday, Christian Köbele from the LBV released hundreds of green toad tadpoles into their new home.

The little green toad is on the red list, it is threatened with extinction.

A compensation area created in 1997 next to the Bayernwerk substation on the western outskirts of Karlsfeld now offers the animals optimal living space.

A small pond was created there under the direction of the LBV, and the area was also ecologically upgraded overall.

The Bavarian Cultural Land Foundation is now taking care of the area.

Further measures are also planned on the compensation area to create habitats for animals and plants.

Among other things, another pond is to be added.

In about eight weeks, Köbele estimates, the offspring will have developed enough to be able to leave the pond.

Green toads are sexually mature after about two years, they are ten to 15 years old.

Green toads prefer to colonize sparsely vegetated gravel areas and fallow land.

The Erlbau construction site on Bayernwerkstrasse, on which nothing has happened for many months, met all the conditions.

Children discovered the animals while they were playing.

The conservationists have been informed.

With the large community action, the population was secured.
