The summit meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden began in Geneva today.
The Swiss president gave a welcoming speech at the gates of the Villa "La Grange", in the presence of Putin and Biden, before the start of the summit, after which the two presidents went to the venue.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Russian President expressed hope that the summit between the two sides would be fruitful.
For his part, Biden expressed his conviction that the "face to face" meeting represents a useful step, pointing out that the United States is "trying to identify areas of common interest with Russia."
The summit agenda includes a wide range of issues, including the situation in Syria, Libya, Afghanistan and others, in addition to issues of strategic stability, combating the coronavirus pandemic, combating cybercrime, economic cooperation, climate change, various regional crises, in addition to outstanding issues in bilateral relations between Moscow and Washington.
According to the agenda, the summit is scheduled to be held in three phases, the first of which will include talks between Putin and Biden, in the presence of Russian and American Foreign Ministers Sergey Lavrov and Anthony Blinken.
