Live broadcast from the plenum

After some of the new government ministers resigned from their positions in the Knesset under Norwegian law, 13 new Knesset members today (Wednesday) declared allegiance in the plenum and will be the 24th Knesset members.

A new MK who made history was sworn in among new Knesset members: Shirley Pinto on the right, who became the first deaf MK in Israel.

Pinto, 32, married and a white mother, was born and raised in Kiryat Bialik, the daughter of a deaf and deaf and blind mother.

She served in the technical system of the Air Force, graduated with a law degree and served in a variety of positions for the benefit of the deaf community in Israel.

Its goal in the Knesset is, among other things, to make sign language a more familiar and official language, and one of the bills it is expected to submit is intended, among other things, to ensure that every official institution has at least one sign language speaker.

She also emphasizes giving tools to young children with disabilities to help with their studies, knowing that thanks to this she has succeeded in her life.

For the Knesset, this is a challenge in light of the fact that Pinto requires a close translator, even in the Knesset plenum, where, according to the procedures, only Knesset members are present.

There have been discussions about this in recent days, and the goal is to make Pinto's needs accessible at the maximum level so that she can fulfill her role properly.
