Cramming in the summer holidays: In order to compensate for any deficits that may have arisen from teaching at home, the city of Unterschleißheim organizes learning camps for schoolchildren.

Unterschleißheim

- Pandemic-related learning deficits of students want to help the city of Unterschleißheim in a "learning camp" to help.

Primary and middle school pupils are to receive tuition as early as the summer holidays.

The proposal initiated by the SPD was approved by the overwhelming majority of the city councils.

For over a year, lessons in the Free State were largely reduced to alternating or distance lessons.

"Homeschooling" is a burden for schoolchildren and their families, emphasizes the SPD parliamentary group.

It is increasingly difficult for stressed parents to look after their children.

The Social Democrats are convinced that this situation will continue into the summer months.

"Would like no children to be disadvantaged in this way"

The SPD warns of serious consequences. Socially weaker families, families with a migration background and single parents are no longer able to give their children the support they need. The ongoing "homeschooling" leads to considerable learning deficits. Primary school children in particular would not learn to read properly. Reading skills that had already been acquired were lost again: “We want no children in Unterschleißheim to be disadvantaged in this way. Your right to education and equal opportunities should be taken seriously, ”says the Social Democrats' motion.

The city council called on the town hall to organize a "learning camp" this summer.

The pupils of Unterschleißheim's elementary and secondary schools are to be provided with volunteer learning mentors who regularly practice reading and arithmetic with their protégés.

The tutoring is adapted to the infection rate.

Lessons take place in small groups;

if necessary tailored to the needs of a student.

AfD city council votes against learning camps - for a reason

The “learning camp” could be offered as part of the city's summer vacation program.

For this purpose, the town hall should come to an agreement with a suitable agency who would be responsible for the organization and coordination of the learning camp.

The SPD is thinking of the JugendKulturhaus Gleis 1, the Junge Integration Unterschleißheim, the Spielmobil or the neighborhood help

As long as the pandemic lasts, the learning camp is to be offered decentrally at different locations.

Schools, day nurseries and parishes could be considered.

Teachers should advertise as early as possible.

Most of the parliamentary groups followed suit.

Only AfD spokesman Peter Kremer is not prepared to hold the city responsible for failures in teaching and education that might have been caused by the Ministry of Education.
