Today (17th) the police arrested five senior officials of Next Media, including Chief Executive Officer of Next Media Group Zhang Jianhong, Chief Operating Officer Zhou Daquan, "Apple Daily" Chief Editor Luo Weiguang, Vice President Chen Peimin, and Executive Editor Zhang Zhiwei, alleging that they were suspected of violating the National Security Law. The crime of conspiring to collude with foreign countries or foreign forces to endanger national security."

Hundreds of police officers were also sent to search the "Apple Daily" building in Tseung Kwan O.


Senior Superintendent Li Guihua of the National Security Division of the Police Department said that the police applied to the court for a warrant to search the "Apple" building, which allowed the processing of news materials.

After a five-hour investigation, the police seized a large number of items, including 38 computers belonging to journalists.

The police also frozen 18 million yuan in assets of three companies, including Apple Daily Co., Ltd., Apple Daily Printing Co., Ltd. and AD Internet Limited.
