A., a firefighter in the fire and rescue system who was scheduled to take an officers' course and receive the rank of Reshef, allegedly violently assaulted his wife and was detained for questioning by the police.

The case in his case was transferred to the Police Prosecution Department for examination of the filing of an indictment.

The district commander of the fire and rescue department, Tafser Ronen Makhtayev, who among other things sees himself as a candidate for the next fire commissioner, showered compliments on the firefighter, and determined that he did not find it appropriate to suspend him from office despite admitting the suspicions attributed to him.

Only after Walla!

Makhtayev changed his mind - and his promotion was halted.

The events began in early May, when the wedding of the daughter of an officer from the station where the firefighter was working took place.

A. was present at the wedding together with other employees from the station and drank for rent.

Two other firefighters who were with him drove him back to his home.

When he arrived, a firefighter and her non-firefighter partner helped him up the stairs because he was drunk, and they entered his house with him, where A. started punching his wife and threw her to the floor.

The firefighter and her partner, who were amazed at the way A. attacked his wife, called the police who arrived at the couple's apartment, and arrested him for questioning, at the end of which he was released under restrictive conditions. After the alleged assault, the firefighter was allowed to go on a two-week vacation at his request, and at the end, returned to work when he was scheduled to begin the officers' course in early June.

Two days after the incident, Dan District Fire Chief, Ronen Makhtayev, wrote a letter to human resources at the fire department, reporting the suspicions attributed to the firefighter, and even detailing the chain of events.

Makhtayev praised the firefighter in the letter and stated that there was no room for punishment against him. "The employee is a very dedicated and professional employee, with great potential for promotion. He is also a candidate for the upcoming officers' course. The employee is disciplined and has a high sense of service. The employee is always ready to help his friends, cares and does his job very well," !.

Makhtayev further stated that "in view of the assessment of the employee's character by his superiors, and in view of his departure for a two-week leave, I did not find it appropriate to recommend at this stage the taking of an urgent suspension step."

The decision to take an officers' course was made in the Dan District Fire Department just a week after he violently assaulted his wife in front of his friends.

"The employee is always ready to help his friends."

But Walla! Lamakhteib brought about a change in his decision, and he informed Human Resources in the lineup that he recommends canceling the firefighter’s departure for the officers course and claimed that he did not know all the details.

On Thursday, June 10, after the committee selected the firefighter, the Human Resources Division of the Fire and Rescue Commission was immediately updated on the case, and on the same day his winning of the tender was suspended. Moreover, the district commander found it appropriate to recommend to the Human Resources Division of the Fire and Rescue Commission to invalidate the committee's decision, and to examine the possibility of reunification.

A letter from Makhtayev's office came out just a day after Makhtayev sent his response to Walla !, which raises questions and doubts about the conduct of the district commander.

District Commander Makhtayev responded: "The district commander strongly condemns violence in general, and violence against women in particular."

"We will not be able to comment on the details of the incident, which we do not fully know, and the matter is still under police investigation. However, it will be clarified that the incident was reported immediately after it occurred in accordance with the Civil Service Regulations and the Fire and Rescue Commission."
