A 53-year-old man was
arrested
this Wednesday at Jorge Newbery Airport as he was about to board a plane bound for Mendoza.
The Airport Security Police asked him to open his suitcase and there they found an opulent surprise:
he had
gold coins
valued at more than
23 million
pesos
.
The detection occurred during the preventive controls carried out on the passengers close to boarding the flight No. 5050 of the Flybondi company,
bound for the city of Mendoza
.
Through X-ray scanners, officers noticed an enormous density of objects inside the 53-year-old man's luggage
that they could not identify
.
Controls by the PSA at Aeroparque.
Surprised, they asked him to show them the inside of the suitcase and there they found the hidden treasure: he
carried 87 Chilean gold coins
;
$ 17,800;
158,900 pesos and 8,000 Chilean pesos.
But he did not hide his fortune only there: in his backpack they discovered another 20 gold coins,
accounting for a total of 107
.
According to official information, it is estimated that each piece is valued at approximately 220,000 pesos, which is why it would be transporting
gold worth 23,540,000 pesos
.
What ended up convincing the police that it was a suspicious case was that when they asked the man for some documentation to support the enormous amount of money, he only provided an image of a sales ticket
with missing data
.
The owner of the gold explained that the fortune he transferred
it was the product of the
sale of a vehicle
.
After the search, the officers found in his wallet four deferred payment checks with a value of 375,000 pesos;
another with a value of 358,000 pesos, and other checks crossed and expired in 2020 for 55,000 and 67,200 pesos.
None indicated a beneficiary
.
By court order, the PSA initiated summary proceedings for the violation of Article 303 of the Penal Code, and seized the gold and securities except for 10,000 pesos that were delivered to the man for his mobility,
who was released as a defendant.
The National Economic Criminal Court intervened, headed by Ezequiel Verón de Astrada.
