The wave of infections and deaths from covid-19 that Uruguay has experienced during the last three months drastically increased the work in the country's cemeteries. The measures that they had to take range from extensions to exhumations of office, to reduce and place remains in urns, which can generate space and avoid a collapse. The Municipality of Montevideo says that only in the North Cemetery, the largest in the country, the increase in funeral services in May was 41%, compared to the same month last year.
