Christian Eriksen: automatic defibrillator will be implanted in footballer after collapse in match

This Thursday, the Danish Football Federation reported through a statement on its verified Twitter account that its star player Christian Eriksen will undergo surgery to place an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator.

“After Christian had several cardiac tests it was decided that he should have an ICD (implantable cardioverter defibrillator).

This device is necessary after suffering a heart attack due to disorders, ”says the federation's statement.

According to the Danish federation, Christian Eriksen has accepted the solution which, according to the statement, has been the treatment recommended by specialists in Denmark and internationally.

"We urge everyone to give Christian and his family peace and privacy for a time," the statement said.

Last Saturday, Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during the match against Finland in Euro 2020.

At a press conference last Sunday, the Danish team's doctors said Eriksen "had died" before being revived after collapsing on the pitch.

The Dane, who has made more than 100 appearances for his country's national team, went through the lower ranks of Ajax and began his professional career at said Dutch club.

He is currently a player for Inter Milan, with whom he was crowned champion of the 2020/21 Italian League this summer.
