When it comes to vaccination, it is difficult to reach people whose mother tongue is not German.
Only three took part in an extensive information event.
Freising
- Perhaps the most important question of the evening remained largely unanswered: How can people be reached for vaccination information and a vaccination offer?
Because actually the Zoom event "Corona vaccination" should have been the first low-threshold offer for people whose mother tongue is not German - the rush, however, was very limited.
Ultimately, only three foreign-language people used this forum for questions about the corona virus and the recommended vaccination.
The participants
The ambitions of the cooperation event of the Freising Migration Council, the Caritas Center, the Domberg Academy and the city's intercultural agency were great.
Language intermediaries in English, Polish, Hungarian, Croatian, Chinese, Russian, Dari, Spanish and Turkish would have been available.
But it was clear early on that two language mediators would be enough for English and Chinese.
The medical team
The medical team Dr. Heidi Bisping-Arnold, Dr. Hermann Hobmair and Barbara Weigand were available to the 20 German-speaking interested parties for questions - which in the course of the course often revolved around the subject of vaccinations for children. In this regard, Hobmair was able to provide information: Children are currently only vaccinated with diseases such as poorly controlled diabetes 1, immune deficiencies or chronic lung diseases. The risk of Long Covid Syndrome, which can also be pronounced in children, is also a reason for vaccinating all younger people in his opinion. In the Freising vaccination center, however, no children are currently being vaccinated; parents must then go to the pediatrician. What Hobmair believes, however: A vaccination recommendation for children could well come, because countries like Israel have shown that there are hardly any side effects in this group. The only thing left to do is to clarify whether the appropriate vaccine is sufficiently available.
The generally sufficient availability also occupied the Freising District Councilor Samuel Fosso.
In his opinion, it makes no sense to cancel the prioritization, because there is a lack of vaccine for those who want to be vaccinated.
This, according to Fosso, is a deception of the population.
Because: "Not everyone can be vaccinated."
The family doctors
Bisping-Arnold also attested the cancellation of the prioritization as an absolute chaos for general practitioners: Here a lot would be ordered every week and hardly anything would arrive at the practices, which would mean extreme annoyance for everyone involved.
In the Freising vaccination center, however, lists would continue to be processed according to the usual prioritization, so that everything there would still run in an orderly manner.
The rumors
But what is noticeable regardless of this: According to Bisping-Arnold, citizens of Turkish origin of the older generation are very skeptical of the corona vaccination.
There were all kinds of rumors floating around, said Bisping-Arnold.
Her idea was to go to the mosque and talk to the Iman there.
The spokeswoman for the Migration Council, Meral Meindl, confirmed that there were rumors about the vaccination - but not only among Turkish citizens.
She sees family doctors as an important information interface for these people - in addition, in her opinion, information deficits per se could also be a major problem.
The warning
Fosso would like to look at it in a much more nuanced way, because in his opinion it would be the “wrong direction” to impose conspiracy theories on migrants without taking a closer look. "We shouldn't misrepresent this group in public," stressed Fosso. Because: "I know a lot of doctors and pharmacists in Freising who do not want to be vaccinated - and they are not migrants."
In addition, Fosso warned of a perhaps well-intentioned vaccination campaign on a large scale if there was not enough vaccine available on site.
And Migration Council spokeswoman Meral Meindl is also convinced that the willingness of the Turkish population will increase, since if there is no vaccination, among other things, entry restrictions could apply to Turkey.
This is one of the reasons why restraint is the order of the day, emphasized Fosso, who finally suggested: keep vaccinating and wait.
