Senior Superintendent Li Guihua of the National Security Department of the police said that in the morning, more than 500 people from the Criminal Department and the Tactical Unit of the police searched the "Apple Daily" plant and various places and arrested 5 men and women on suspicion of conspiring with others to appeal to foreign countries or organizations And the Hong Kong SAR government imposed sanctions.
Li Guihua pointed out that the National Security Department's investigation found that from 2019 to the present, dozens of articles in the "Apple Daily" physical newspaper and online are suspected of calling for foreign and other organizations to impose sanctions on China and the SAR government.
The arrested persons include the directors, proprietors, publishers and editors of Apple Daily, etc. The police action continues and it is not ruled out that more people will be arrested.
The police also pointed out that according to the order of the Secretary for Security, three companies including Apple Daily were frozen, with a total of 18 million yuan in assets.
