When Agnes Forsthofer from Munich moved to Türkenfeld last autumn, it was clear that she would bring her voluntary work with her.

The community's public life is now being enriched by a new association that will soon be making its first offers: The “cultural entanglements” are in the starting blocks.

Türkenfeld -

As the name suggests, the association is about handicrafts - but not only.

Agnes Forsthofer, auburn curly hair, a straw hat, a colorful summer dress, calls what she's up to "multicultural multi-generational display".

There should be knitting and crocheting meetings, perhaps sewing courses, "advice and gossip meetings" for seniors, handicraft and creative lessons for children.

Always provided that there are enough people who want to participate.

It looks good there.

Agnes Forsthofer is already speaking of an “incredibly great response” that she is coming from the town.

Türkenfeld is no stranger to the 63-year-old.

Her parents moved there over 40 years ago.

When her mother died last October, the daughter was faced with the choice of selling her parents' house or moving in herself.

She decided on the latter because she couldn't stand the big city anyway.

And then there was also her mother's cat, which she did not want to tear out of his home and with whom she now lives happily under one roof.

Sewing room in barracks

Agnes Forsthofer is an original - humorous, warm and anything but off your mouth.

For many years she was a stand woman on the Auer Dult and ran her own shop for left-handed items.

In 2012 she founded Kulturverstrickungen eV to bring people from all over the world together using the universal cultural techniques of sewing, knitting and crocheting.

She and other volunteers ran a sewing room for refugees and locals on the grounds of the Bayern barracks for four years.

In their eyes, handicrafts symbolize diversity and commonality in one.

While knitting with women from other countries, she got to know the most diverse techniques of how to hold the needles and guide the threads.

"And yet we all come to a right and a left stitch."

Urban knitting

Agnes Forsthofer and her colleagues in Munich became known through urban knitting projects, i.e. wrapping tree trunks, railings or gray bollards on sidewalks with colorful woolen scarves.

The new resident can well imagine something like that in Türkenfeld.

When she went for a walk by the village pond in winter, she saw the surrounding trees with colorful knitted decorations in her mind's eye.

She is currently in the process of redesigning the former flower shop on Bahnhofstrasse into the “Türkenfelder Kreativ-Platzl”.

Boxes of wool pile up on the walls, panels of fabric are stacked on the shelves, various sewing machines are waiting to be used.

The new landlady has completely covered one wall with pages from a women's magazine from the 1950s.

A cozy knitted corner with sofas is to be created in the rear area.

When the weather is nice, you should be able to sit outside and do handicrafts there.

Agnes Forsthofer expects interest from the neighboring senior citizens' housing complex, and she can just as easily imagine projects with kindergartens and schools.

Some people have also asked about tailoring changes that could be easily integrated.

But she doesn't want to reinvent the wheel, says the 63-year-old modestly.

In no case does she want to compete with other offerings from Turkey, such as the “Strickeria” from the women's association.

The cultural entanglements should be a complement and make the place even more colorful - in the truest sense of the word.
